Systems of servitude and slavery were common in ancient times, as they were in much of the rest of the ancient world  According to the Global Slavery Index, there are an estimated 46 million people living in modern-day slavery. 58 percent of people in slavery are living in just five countries: India, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Uzbekistan. India has the maximum number of slaves at 18.40 million, compared to 3.4 million in China and 2.1 million in Pakistan.

Here is the list of Countries with most slaves per capita from least to the highest.

1. Mauritania

The West African nation of Mauritania ranks highest on the widespread of modern slavery. More than 20 percent of the country’s population slaves. Chattel slavery, a slave type that is passed down from generation to generation. Which is the most predominant in Mauritania.

2. Haiti

4. Nigeria

There are about 0.88 million people live in modern day slavery in Nigeria today. People of all ages are forced into various forms of modern slavery. Young girls and boys are mostly trafficked into domestic servitude,female genital mutilation, sex work and for other manual work. children are forced marriages and forced labor. Young girls also get tricked, as they will get jobs as nannies in Western countries but end up as sex slaves in the countries like; United Kingdom, Italy, or Belgium.Most of the kids have no say in their lives as they come from th ghettos and sometimes are seen roaming about in the streets due tpo poverty.

5. Russia

The Global Slavery Index has it that over 1 million people are involved in modern day slavery, many people work in forced labor situations in the construction, agriculture, textiles, and timber sectors. While women and children suffer sexual exploitation. Human trafficking is also in practice in Russia. In addition, Russian Brothels have girls trafficked as sex slaves from neighboring countries as; Moldova, Ukraine, and Belarus.

The country also serves as a transit point for human trafficked into and out of countries like; Oman, UAE, Bahrain, China, South Korea, and Japan.

6. Uzbekistan

Modern day slavery is basically characterized as forced labor. According to Global Slavery Index, equivalent to 1.20 million people are under the pang of modern day slavery. Most of this slavery is channeled into the cotton-growing agricultural sector, where there is state-sanctioned forced labor. The farmers are forced to grow cotton, and to harvest it every autumn for the state’s benefit. they put in labor and gets nothing ion return. They are made to suffer for the state.

7. Bangladesh

The Global Slavery Index has it that almost 1.50 million Bangladeshis are modern-day slaves. You must also note that hundreds of thousands of Bangli children aged from 5 to 17 years old are forced into child labor, according to UNICEF. They are working in fisheries, textile industry, agriculture, mining, recycling, brick kilns and garbage collection industries and etc.

8. Pakistan

2.10 million people are in bonded labor in Pakistan. Punjab and Sindh provinces being the hot-spots for debt slavery or bonded labor. Many Pakistanis migrate to Gulf states, Iran, Turkey, South Africa in search of work, in the process of searching for the daily bread they are held captive into hard labour by agents who withhold passports and don’t pay wages.

9. China

China had 3.40 million slaves. These slaves work in construction, heavy industries, mines, and housekeeping.

China’s National Bureau of Statistics stated that, 166 million people women and children included are regarded as domestic migrants left their homes to go work elsewhere in China. They are forced labor, sexual exploitation, and forced marriages. In addition, sexual slavery is also prominent in China.

10. India

India is the country with the highest number of slave people in the world. Almost all forms of slavery are practiced there, from inter-generational bonded labor to sex trafficking, forced marriage and child labor.
