How to Cook Vegetable and Shrimp Sauce (10 easy steps)

Vegetable and shrimp are good for the body and it is advisable to eat vegetables daily, you can use vegetables to cook virtually everything. Nigerians love vegetables and they eat them a lot. It is medically and traditionally healthy for people. Amongst everything to cook vegetables with is shrimp. Shrimps are healthy, it’s seafood and most people love seafood. Most people cook their vegetables with chicken, beef, and goat meat.

This Vegetable and Shrimp Sauce is perfect for Boiled White Yam, Rice, Potatoes, Plantain, and other boilable staple food. If you do not know how to cook vegetable and shrimp sauce do not worry about it because the sauce is very easy to prepare. You just have to follow the instructions accordingly and you will have your delicious sauce. Cooking is exciting, the fun you just have to be patient.

Ingredients for cooking vegetable and shrimp sauce

These ingredients are very important for you to be able to cook your vegetable and shrimp sauce.  You do not need anything extra and you do not have to remove any of the ingredients for you to get the exact taste of the sauce.

  • 10 shrimps
  • 1 medium bowl ugu leaves
  • 2 cooking spoons vegetable oil
  • 2 sweet peppers (paprika)
  • 2 habanero peppers or to taste
  • 1 onion
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper (optional)
  • 2 small stock cubes
  • Salt (to taste)

You will need any of the staple food that you will serve with the Vegetable and Shrimp Sauce. Though some people eat the vegetable and shrimp alone but a lot of people eat their with any of these combinations.

Notes on the ingredients for cooking vegetable sauce and shrimp

Before cooking your vegetable and shrimp sauce you have to know this about the ingredients you are to use for the sauce before preparing the sauce.

  1. If you do not have sweet peppers (paprika), use tatashe. But remember that while sweet peppers are not spicy hot, tatashe is very spicy hot. You can also use red bell peppers which are not spicy hot.
  2. If you do not have ugu, use spinach. You can also use green amaranth if you do not mind the taste.
  3. Habanero pepper is atarodo, ose oyibo or atarugu.

Before you cook the Vegetable Sauce

You have to first of all thoroughly wash all the ingredients that needs to be washed for cooking to start.

  1. Peel the shrimps if they are not already peeled.
  2. Dice the onions, the sweet peppers (deseeded) and the habanero peppers.
  3. Slice the ugu leaves.
  4. Start preparing the staple that you will serve it with. I am using yam so i cut and peel the yam, rinse, put in a pot and add water to cover it.

Cooking Directions for Vegetable and Shrimp Sauce

These are the instructions for cooking vegetable and shrimp sauce, follow them and you will get your sauce.

  1. Start cooking the yam.
  2. On another burner, set the frying pan or pot and pour the vegetable oil.
  3. When hot, add some of the diced onions.
  4. Add the shrimps and sautee for 7 minutes, stirring it all the time.
  5. When slightly brown, remove the shrimps from the frying pan and set aside.
  6. Add the remaining onions into the oil in the frying pan and fry for about 3 minutes or till slightly brown.
  7. Add the diced peppers and fry for 5 minutes.
  8. Crush and add the stock cubes, salt and the black pepper.
  9. Stir and add the sliced ugu and stir very well.
  10. Add the fried shrimps, store and it is done!

Now your vegetable sauce is ready you can eat it with boiled white yam, rice, plantain and etc.
